Thor (2011) is an American action-adventure fantasy movie that is based on the Marvel Comics character, Thor. The movie had an estimated budget of $150 million and grossed over $449.3 million at the box offices. The concept of Thor was laid out in 1991 by Sam Raimi, who was the first one to think of it. He did not take long to walk away from the Thor project resulting in Thor going through the hands of many film studios until Marvel Studios saved it in 2006. The movie was supposed to be released in 2008 with Matthew Vaughn as the director. The rest is predictable which is Kenneth Branagh becoming the new director and the movie gained a new release date in 2011. Director Kenneth Branagh’s (Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1994), Henry V (1989), Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014)) did an outstanding job executing this thrill-seeking movie that I have watched more than once.
Thor revolves around Thor (Chris Hemsworth - The Avengers (2012), Thor 2: The Dark World (2013), Rush (2013)) who is the crown prince of Asgard that was exiled from Asgard to Earth. Thor met scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman - V for Vendetta (2005), Black Swan (2010), Leon: The Professional (1994), Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)) who feels the same way about him. Thor’s life was going well until his adopted brother Loki is bent on becoming the new king of Asgard leaving Thor with no choice but to battle him. Thor was about to get the throne to Asgard, but Frost Giants tried to take the Casket, and Thor disobeyed his father, Odin’s (Anthony Hopkins - Hannibal (2001), Red Dragon (2002), The Elephant Man (1980)) order. Thor and a few others went to Jotunheim to confront Laufey and was failing until his father; Odin intervenes to save the Asgardians. Thor was then stripped of his godly powers and sent to Earth as a mortal with his hammer Mjolnir, which can only be wielded by those who is worthy of it.
Dr. Jane Foster and two others found Thor when he landed in New Mexico, and the human population saw his Mjolnir, which agent Phil Coulson from S.H.I.E.L.D. wants. SPOILER - Loki (Tom Hiddleston - The Avengers (2012), Thor 2: The Dark World (2013), Crimson Peak (2015)) finds out that he is Laufey’s son. Loki seizes the throne while Odin is in a coma like sleep and the movie gets interesting when Loki offers his father Laufey the chance to get him the casket and kill Odin. A series of events takes place that is mind blowing with details and is also action packed. Thor was everything I imagined it to be and more and is something that I will watch with my kids until they get bored of it. Thor contains about a second or two of buttock’s nudity and not even the entire butt and extreme violence. The special effects, CGI, sound, cinematography, editing, and directing were top notch. All of the actors did an excellent job with their performances, and it could not have been any better.
