HellHorror’s review of Thralls (2005) breaks down the plot, scares, cast performances, and its lasting impact on the horror genre.
Thralls (2005) is a horror movie that made no sense and contained substantial plot holes. Director Ron Oliver (Flash Forward (1996), The New Addams Family (1998), Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1990), Prom Night III: The Last Kiss (1990)) failed to execute this movie that I was looking forward to seeing. The film should be remade because I think it would be off the charts if there were a different writer and director behind it. The movie had a good concept. The digital effects were terrible, but guys might like the sight of the bodacious females.
Thralls revolve around six women/females that are known as thralls. Thralls are half-vampires who cannot turn their victims into vampires and cannot fly. Centuries-old vampire Mr. Jones (Lorenzo Lamas - Falcon Crest (1981), Renegade (1992), Grease (1978), The Bold and the Beautiful (1987)) controls the thralls, and they cannot escape easily. One of the thrall’s sisters Ashley (Siri Baruc - The Ten (2007), Mega Snake (2007), The Wisher (2002), Unholy (2007)), tries to help the thrall escape Mr. Jones and his henchman, Rennie. Leslie (Leah Cairns - Interstellar (2014), 88 Minutes (2007), Battlestar Galactica (2004), Helen (2009)) is a thrall who owns a dance club in Iowa, and her sister is Ashley. Leslie had to save Ashley from the muggers’ attack by draining one of their blood. Ashley soon after became aware that her sister and friends were half-vampires. The thralls stole the Necronomicon to help them defeat Jones. Jones has other plans that include unleashing a demon named Belial so that Jones can take over the world.
The movie had a few good moments, which is why it scored four. The screenplay was weak and had several plot holes that were easily noticeable. The story was all over the place, and it would take too much effort and time to make sense of it. Things happen in the movie, and there is no reason for them and no backstory to them. The movie is for individuals who want to watch a movie and go with the flow. The characters did not help the film with their not-so-good acting.
