Horror fans will enjoy our review of Troll 2 (1990), where we cover its story, scares, and how it ranks among modern horror classics.
Troll 2 (1990) is an Italian English fantasy horror movie that was originally produced under the title, Goblins (1990). Distributors thought that the film was not going to do good and renamed it Troll 2 so that it can be market as a sequel Troll (1986) although the two movies have no connection. Director and co-writer Claudio Fragasso (Zombi 3 (1988), Palermo-Milan One Way (1995), Guardian of Hell (1981)) did an okay job executing this movie but it could have been so much better. The film lacks quality, vibrancy, great sound effects, visual appeal and the makeup department did not do an excellent job.
Troll 2 revolves around a family being harassed/chased by vegetarian goblins that only want to turn the humans into plants so that they consume them. Michael (George Hardy - Best Worst Movie (2009), Chosen (2014), Junk (2012)) and his family exchange their home with another family for one month. Michael has always wanted to farm and now they will live in a rural farming community of Nilbog. Dead grandfather, Seth (Robert Ormsby) contacts Michael’s son Joshua the night before they leave to go on vacation. Seth told Joshua (Michael Stephenson - Best Worst Movie (2009), The American Scream (2012), The Paper Brigade (1996)) that there were vegetarian goblins where the family is headed. The goblins will transform his family into plants by putting poison in their food or drink. Joshua warns his family, but no one believes him, so Joshua takes it upon himself to save his family. The goblins capture Joshua after catching him snooping around. Will Joshua be able to save his family and what will happen to him in the hands of the goblins?
I would not recommend this movie to viewers because there are better quality movies that will deliver today. The movie did have a few good laughs, and I was able to connect with a few characters. The actors did okay with what they were given. The screenplay could have been more thought out, could have contained a few intense suspense scenes. I will this review saying that a baloney sandwich can hold a lot of power and possibly save your life one day.
