Vamp (1986) is an American comedy horror movie that was filmed at Ren-Mar Studios - 846 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA and Los Angeles, California, USA. I am happy that director Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2 (2012), The Equalizer (2014), 16 Blocks (2006), The Mechanic (2011)) did not stop making movies after not doing so well with Vamp. Richard went on to making some outstanding movies that are loved by many. The film contains nudity, violence, vampires, strippers, suspense, intense moments, and blood. The film works in many ways although it had plot holes and did not flow well in the last half of the movie.
College students Keith (Chris Makepeace - My Bodyguard (1980), Meatballs (1979), The Terry Fox Story (1983)) and AJ will do anything to get their way into a campus fraternity including hiring a stripper. AJ (Robert Rusler - A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985), Weird Science (1985), Sometimes They Come Back (1991)) and Keith borrowed Duncan’s Cadillac to go to the strip club. Duncan insisted on going with the boys. The three guys found an artistic stripper, Queen Katrina (Grace Jones - Lord of War (2005), Pineapple Express (2008), Pride (2014), Boomerang (1992)) that they like. AJ visits Katrina in her dressing room so that he can convince her to strip for their college party, but Katrina has other plans for AJ. Keith met waitress Amaretto (Dedee Pfeiffer - For Your Love (1998), Cybill (1995), Falling Down (1993), Up Close & Personal (1996)) who insists that she knows him from their past. Skip forward and we see Keith, Amaretto, and Duncan (Gedde Watanabe - Mulan (1998), Sixteen Candles (1984), Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990), Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)) leaving the club with chaos following them. Keith and Amaretto battle with a lot of vampires, will they survive? There is much more to the movie but saying more about the film will be giving it away.
I was sad at the end of the movie after hearing what one of the actors said about going to school at night and working the graveyard shift since the daylight is dangerous to him. It was a touching moment that made me realize that once you set your mind to something then you can do it because there is always a way. The actors did a great job with their performances as well as the special effect department and the makeup department. The editor, however, did not do such a good job as you can sometimes see the crew members. The music was a nice added touch that just made the movie be a better experience. The cinematographer could have improved in a few areas but overall, I gave this movie a six because it was an entertaining watch. I see a few movies between the year 2005 -2015 that are almost identical to Vamp (1986).
