Wrecker (2015) is a Canadian English action thriller horror film that was shot in British Columbia, Canada. Director and co-writer Micheal Bafaro (11:11 (2004), The Barber (2002), The Devil’s Ground (2009)) did not develop the characters well enough although the lead actresses flourish with their performances. Michael had fun directing this film as it is filled with road rage and pursuit. I think Wrecker is an homage to Steven Spielberg’s Duel (1971). On the other hand, I also believe that this film is a good rip off/cliche because several scenes are the same including the diner, gas station, and the phone booth. Wrecker is not as good as Hitch (2005) but is worth seeing because it was made for fans who loves a good road rage chase.
Emily (Anna Hutchison - The Cabin in the Woods (2012), Power Rangers Jungle Fury (2008), Go Girls (2009)) and Leslie are two beautiful young females. Emily and Leslie (Andrea Whitburn - Augusta, Gone (2006), Poison Ivy: The Secret Society (2008), Primary (2014)) thought they were going to have fun traveling to California. The girls just wanted to get away for a while and drive from Seattle to California. They were planning on having a memorable time because they packed joints that are already rolled up and beers in a cooler. Their red-hot muscle Mustang started to rev up and to make matters worse; their GPS could not get a signal and stopped working. Emily and Leslie decide to reroute and take a road off of the highway that was a deadly mistake because the road they decided to take is Devil’s Pass. It did not take long for them to encounter a crazy tow-truck driver that forces them to play a game that is not in their favor.
The movie was overall entertaining and kept me on my toes as I am rooting for the females to survive their nightmarish trip. The female lead actors did a phenomenal job with their roles that helped the movie flourish. The other actors did not excel in their roles as well as the writers for not writing a perfect script. The script had plot holes that cannot be missed but does not take away from you having an enjoyable time watching Wrecker. Wrecker is a good rip off, but I felt Michael Bafaro should have included a little bit more meat to make the movie stand out by itself.
