Where does Wrong Turn 2: Dead End (2007) stand among horror films? Our review examines the scares, pacing, and what makes it unique in the genre.
Wrong Turn 2 - Dead End (2007) is a 1h 33-min rated R American horror film that is a sequel to Wrong Turn (2003) and the second installment in the Wrong Turn series. Director Joe Lynch (Holliston (2012-2017), Everly (2014), Thirsty (2009), Chillerama (2011)) is one outstanding guy that I think will bring us, horror fans fantastical horror movies soon. Wrong Turn 2: Dead End was more than I had imagined it to be and I am pleased to say that Joe Lynch has talent but do not take that the wrong way because Wrong Turn 2 is not something that is/was groundbreaking. Joe is a horror fan who knows what we, horror fans are looking for and delivers.
Wrong Turn 2‘s setting revolves around a reality show called “Ultimate Survivor: Apocalypse” where six survivors have to live in a post-apocalyptic world for five days for a chance to win $100,000. The only things they have on them to survive are their wits/common sense and a few ground rules which they quickly forgot about once insanity sets in. Something that was not said to the six people was that there is a family of inbred mutant cannibals in the West Virginia woodlands. I am not sure if the researcher of the show knew that important bit of information or not; maybe he did not do his job properly or maybe he knew and just wants to up the game for better ratings/viewings.
The six contestants are paired up into three pairs with their personalities clashing. Retired Marine Sergeant Dale Murphy (Henry Rollins - Heat (1995), Jackass: The Movie (2002), Bad Boys II (2003), Lost Highway (1997)) is the show’s host who knows how to survive. What will happen to the six contestants as the cannibal family awaits their arrivals? The violent deaths were not by any means easy and were extremely gruesome/nasty. It was interesting to see all of the different ways people were being killed. The movie had some cheesy dialogue, one annoying character, plot holes, great scenes, awesome kills, good special effects, excellent sound, fantastic editing and once again, really spectacular kills.
