A Christmas Horror Story (2015) shocked audiences with its ending. Our spoiler-free review explains the scares, themes, and what makes this film unforgettable.
A Christmas Horror Story (2015) is a Canadian horror anthology movie that surpassed my expectations with its frightening holiday horror. It is a dark comedy that involves terrifying terror that will make you remember this movie around the holidays. I dislike that the movie went back and forth between the short tales. I would have appreciated the movie more if it was sorted into segments. The narrative helps but I prefer segments instead of one long tale that intertwines.
A Christmas Horror Story started by introducing us to the North Pole and the troubles taking place there. We then shortly saw a bloodied and tired Santa Claus in the reindeer stable. The movie skips back to twelve hours before to the town of Bailey Downs. DJ Dan (William Shatner - Star Trek (1966), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986), Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)) is sipping on spiked eggnog at the radio station. He is on his microphone and is trying to pass time on Christmas Eve. Dan’s relaxing egg nog evening soon turned into his worst nightmare, and he cannot turn back the clock. Three spontaneous teenagers decide to visit a school basement where a horrible murder occurred a year ago and tested faith. Two families are wondering about events and experience different encounters. One family wanders into a forest and encounters a mystical evil whereas the other family encounters the vengeful Krampus. Krampus is a folklore character that punishes naughty boys and girls. Santa Claus is in a heap load of trouble as he tries to help his little helper elves in the North Pole who is infected with a spreading zombie infection.
Each story had an unpredictable ending that left you with a punch in your stomach. I would recommend this movie to all horror fans. I will always remember this movie during the holidays and might be a holiday tradition to watch, maybe not because it is not kid friendly. The actors did a wonderful job with their roles, and their performance were very convincing. I could not believe some of the scenes and the terrifying moments the characters encountered. I would not survive any of those segments. The special effects were on point, and so was the cinematography. I gave this movie a score of an eight because I did not like the stories intertwining and the movie could have been a little more detailed. Overall, watch the movie!!!
