Our review of Amityville II: The Possession (1982) dives into the story, the scares, and whether it truly delivers the horror fans crave.
I caught "The Amityville Horror 2: The Possession" a few nights ago on AMC. This 1982 film was the first sequel to the (in my opinion) awful "The Amityville Horror (1979)". The movie stars Burt Young (Rocky), the lovely Diane Franklin (Better off Dead), James Olson, and Jack Magner.
The Amityville Horror 2: The Possession story is about the Montelli family. They buy the infamous Amityville house and right off the bat begin to experience some strange occurrences. However, a major thing about this picture is the abusiveness of Young’s character, Anthony. He beats the children every time the ghosts mess up the house. It’s pretty disturbing. His son, Sonny (Magner) becomes possessed by the Amityville horror house. The way they filmed the camera angles coming over his head, and following behind him reminded me
His son, Sonny (Magner) becomes possessed by the Amityville horror house. The way they filmed the camera angles coming over his head, and following behind him reminded me a lot of the camera shots in Evil Dead (1981). Sonny goes on to seduce his little sister Patricia (Franklin) and ends up blowing away his entire family with a rifle half way through the movie. Now to me that would’ve been the perfect place to stop the film to make it a very good horror movie. But no, The Amityville Horror 2: The Possession story goes on with the family’s priest, Father Adamsky realizing Sonny is possessed and goes way out of his way to try to help the boy.
The first half of this movie is very enjoyable, but after Sonny kills his family, the movie goes downhill, way downhill. The ending flat out sucks. All in all, The Amityville Horror 2: The Possession is a decent movie, much, much better than "The Amityville Horror". Recommended for Amityville Horror fans.
