Our review of Beowulf & Grendel (2005) dives into the story, the scares, and whether it truly delivers the horror fans crave.

Sturla Gunnarsson directed Beowulf & Grendel (2005) won 1 movie award and was nominated for 6 more awards. This Beowulf & Grendel film grossed $66,851 at the US box office.

Beowulf & Grendel has been changed from the classical representation to a more modern interpretation as to what if the demon depicted in the story was not a demon. In this movie, Grandall is shown as the primitive missing link of man, an advanced Neanderthal. It explains his hugeness and his longer than usual arms. Also, primitive man is speculated to have had greater strength than modern day man. Still a story of revenge, Grandall takes revenge on those who killed his father. Grendel’s mother is also depicted as another primitive species in the shape as life began in the sea so what if; I’ll leave it at that.

Beowulf & Grendel is a great movie that I very much enjoyed. Makeup artists should be praised in this movie as well. The Beowulf in this movie is not as legendary feeling in this movie though. The cast did all they could, but I still could not help but expect a little more mysticism in the storyline. I loved the re-imagining of the same old story made in films so many times, but I still thought the full vision of the film could have been experienced fully in a bigger budget movie.
