Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis (2005) is an American sci-fi horror-comedy zombie television action horror movie that is also known as Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis (2005). Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis is preceded by Return of the Living Dead 3 (1993) and followed by Return of the Living Dead: Rave from the Grave (2005). Director Ellory Elkayem (Eight Legged Freaks (2002), They Nest (2000), Larger Than Life (1998)) failed at executing this TV movie. The film contains zombie violence, gore, and explosions.
Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis takes place ten years after Return of the Living Dead 3 (1993). Charles Garrison (Peter Coyote - E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), A Walk to Remember (2002), Sphere (1998), Bitter Moon (1992)) is seen traveling to Chernobyl so that he can collect the last six canisters of Trioxin 5. It did not take long for viewers to see action as two Russian sellers take Charles to get the Trioxin and one of the Russians accidently got the Trioxin on his hands which turned him into a zombie. Charles did the only thing possible, and that is to shoot the Russian in the head. We learn that Charles nephews Julian (John Keefe - Proof (2005), The Aviator (2004), Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave (2005)) and Jake parents died at Hybra Tech a year earlier when they volunteered.
Julian’s friend, Zeke (Elvin Dandel - Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj (2006), Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud (2007), Headless Horseman (2007)) became unconscious after falling during a bike stunt, and the doctors told the friends that Zeke is dead. Julian’s friend Katie (Jana Kramer - Click (2006), One Tree Hill (2003), Prom Night (2008), Heart of the Country (2013)) works at Hybra Tech and saw Zeke being brought in. The friends hack the Hybra Tech website and saw that Zeke was going to be used as a test subject. It was so humorous to see Charles was not affected by the Trioxin as some of the gas escaped through the pipes while he was reanimating an arm and a corpse. How is it possible that he is unaffected by the gas which is toxic from what we have seen so far in the movie. Charles drops a bombshell on Julian before escaping/leaving, and that is that his parents are alive. The film progresses to show the children trying to rescue their friend Zeke with lots of plot holes and goofs.
There is no comedy, no laughable moments except for the major goofs that are visible to anyone, no horror, no scares, no thrills, no suspense, no twist and bad direction. The characters are unlikable, and the actors did the worst possible job with their performances with overacting and exaggerated expressions. Horror fans should stay clear of this film as it is a disaster from the beginning and nothing worthy of watching when there are so many fantastic horror films out there.
