HellHorror’s review of Chimeres (2013) breaks down the plot, scares, cast performances, and its lasting impact on the horror genre.
Chimeres (2013) is a drama horror movie that is in French from Switzerland. Director and co-writer Olivier Beguin (Employé du mois (2012), Dead Bones (2008), Time with Nyenne (2000)) did a good job with this movie. The movie contains trust, romance, violence, tension, intense moments (ending scene especially) blood and creatures. This is a low budget horror indie film that did amazingly well. I would like to see more movies from Oliver as he is progressing nicely with good low budget horror movies.
Alex (Yannick Rosset - La Dame Blanche (2012), Dead Bones (2008), Naufrage (2006)) and his girlfriend Livia (Jasna Kohoutova) are a young couple on vacation in Romania. They were involved in a car accident in Romania where a car hit Alex, and he needed a blood transfusion to survive. The blood that he received was contaminated, and he contracted the vampirism disease that made him slowly turn into a bloodthirsty beast. Is Alex turning into a vampire or another creature??? Upon returning home in their country, Alex started to change by not having an appetite for the food he normally eats, being sensitive to sunlight and other things. He soon began craving blood and Livia tries her best to do everything to please him. She thinks that he has suffered some kind of brain damage during an accident. She started feeding him raw bloody meat because he craves blood, and she now thinks that he is suffering a mental breakdown.
I felt emotions towards Livia as she is trying to be there for Alex and do whatever she can to keep him happy. The soundtrack was good and created the right amount of tension needed in the movie. The scenery was magnificent in my opinion. The chemistry between Yannick and Jasna appeared so real/genuine that it left me in wow. The cinematography was off the charts; acting, lighting, sets and storyline was all done nicely. The director needed some help executing this movie, and it would have scored a nice eight. The ending was awesome, and you would not be able to predict the ending until it happens. I would recommend this movie to all viewers who love a decent low budget horror romance movie with fangs and blood.
