Darling (2015) is an American psychological horror thriller that revolves a young female being the caretaker of a large mansion and slowly becoming insane overtime. Director and writer Mickey Keating (Pod (2015), Ritual (2013), Carnage Park (2016)) who did an incredible job executing his fourth movie. Darling is a gripping slow-burn pace movie that gives you a dreadful feeling with eeriness, tension, and paranoia.
Darling (Lauren Ashley Carter - Premium Rush (2012), The Woman (2011), Jug Face (2013), The Mind’s Eye (2015), Pod (2015)) is a lonely mysterious female/women. Madame (Sean Young - Blade Runner (1982), Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), Stripes (1981), No Way Out (1987)) hired Darling to be the caretaker of her historic New York home. Madame informed Darling about the previous caretaker who committed suicide while caring for the house. She also warned Darling never to open the lock door/room at the end of the hallway on the top floor but will Darling listen to the rules? Darling did what any other average person would do, she explored the huge creepy home and discovered things along her journey.
The script, cinematic intelligence, sound design, aesthetic vision, actors and direction skill are what makes this film an enjoyable, intense watch. I was shocked to learn that Darling was shot during a twelve day period and was not a failure. I applaud the entire staff/team for executing this movie to being something that I will watch again as a creeping fictional nightmarish story. The pacing of the film was nicely done for most of the film, but there was a scene or two that had me wishing things would speed up. With all said, Darling might not be enjoyed by everyone, just like any other movie because you need focus to see the real beauty of this movie and the underlying story.
