Where does Deep Blue Sea (1999) stand among horror films? Our review examines the scares, pacing, and what makes it unique in the genre.

I have to say that Deep Blue Sea (1999) is another movie I saw way back and I did not like it much. I like the idea of genetically engineered sharks with massive brains terrorizing a group of scientists but this movie could have been so much better. The cast is great and includes Thomas Jane, Saffron Burrows, LL Cool J, Michael Rapaport, Samuel Jackson and Stellan Skarsgard but there were many cheesy moments. I also felt like LL Cool J had a clause in his script for extra screen time.

All that being said, the CGI had moments that looked horrible and the death scenes were enjoyable. Deep Blue Sea is not exactly horror because it is not scary and the Sci-Fi bits are not too in depth. I would not watch Deep Blue Sea again but it was an okay late night horror movie creature feature film.
