Where does Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) stand among horror films? Our review examines the scares, pacing, and what makes it unique in the genre.

John Carl Buechler directed Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) was nominated for 2 movie awards back in 1989 for Best Young Actress and Teenage Choice for Best Horror Motion Picture. Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood had an estimated movie budget of $2.8 million and took in $19.1 million at the US box office.

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood is about a telekinetic girl who inadvertently releases Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder) from his grave prison at the bottom of Crystal Lake.

Friday the 13th Part 7 (VII): The New Blood, although the story itself is different from other Friday the 13th movies and has a lot of promise, this movie still only imitates previous titles in the series. Jason Vorhees, still at the bottom of Crystal Lake, is released by a teenager with telekinetic abilities. Jason begins another killing spree, using everything from his trusty machete to a little plastic party horn.

Finally, Friday the 13th Part 7 (VII): The New Blood comes to an unsatisfying climax when a confrontation between the telekinetic girl and Jason Voorhees ensues. While the story is lame, there are other reasons to watch this one. Kane Hodder dons the hockey mask for the first time in this entry, and the way Jason looks in this one is just amazingly grotesque. This isn’t the best Friday the 13th in the series, but it’s far from the worst.
