Horror legend icon John Carpenter directed Ghosts of Mars (2001) on a $28 million estimated budget but got only $8.4 million at the US box office. Ghosts of Mars received a best film award nomination and a Stinker Award nomination for the most intrusive score (by John Carpenter).
John Carpenter co-wrote Ghosts of Mars with Larry Sulkis taking us into the far future of the year 2176. A group of Martian police unit including Natasha Henstridge and Jason Statham are sent to pick up a highly dangerous criminal named Desolation Williams played by Ice Cube. The remote mining post where this all goes down is overrun by some really sinister baddies.
Ghosts of Mars is not my favorite John Carpenterhorror movie in the least, but I had some issues with the pacing of the film. The visual effects were good, and the special effects were too. Ghosts of Mars is a film that you will watch again just to grasp everything if you are a John Carpenter fan. I do not know if it is high expectations, but I cannot give this film an average rating. It is better than below average and yes; the movie score was a factor too.
