Our take on Night of the Living Deb (2015) explores its plot, scares, and horror highlights to help fans decide if it deserves a place on their watchlist.
Night of the Living Deb (2015) is an American independent comedy romance, a post-apocalyptic film that contains quality and originality. Director and co-writer Kyle Rankin (Infestation (2009), Pennyweight (1999), They Came to Attack Us (2001)) did a fabulous job directing his third full-length movie. Kyle’s direction was solid when displaying the emotional moments in the film while keeping us entertained with a few laughs. Kyle and Michael Cassidy raised over $100,000 via Kickstarter on March 6, 2014, to April 5, 2014. Kyle started shooting the movie in his hometown, Portland, Maine on June 10, 2014, and ended on July 3, 2014.
Night of the Living Deb revolves around local news camerawoman Deborah having a night stand only to wake up the next morning at Ryan’s apartment to a zombie apocalypse leaving her and Ryan to stick together to survive. Deborah/Deb (Maria Thayer - Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008), Accepted (2006), Hitch (2005), State of Play (2009)) does not remember how she ended up in super hunk Ryan’s apartment, but that is the least of her problem. The duo is forced to work together as they try to get to their loved ones while praying that they do not come into contact with the mysterious virus. Night of the Living Deb is a zombie movie where we see people trying to survive, so there is not much more to be said without spoiling the movie except that it is not your ordinary zombie flick.
The film contained spine-chilling violence, great character development, witty, fun, hardcore gore-fest, humor and was a well-executed romantic arc. It was wonderful seeing Ryan and Deb bonding over copious pop-culture jokes while displaying some pretty good but deadly entertaining violence. Deb flourished as the main character while the other characters had flaws. I applaud everyone that worked on this low budget film because the output was greatly appreciated as the quality was extremely high.
A few other things the movie contain are:
zombies, a feisty female protagonist, a zombie comedy, bitten by a zombie, zombie outbreak, corrupt politician, contaminated water, gun, CGI blood, shot in the head, zombie child, liberal, dysfunctional family, and quarantine.
