Where does Private Parts (1972) stand among horror films? Our review examines the scares, pacing, and what makes it unique in the genre.

Director Paul Bartel‘s Private Parts (1972) is a twisted R Rated horror comedy mystery film. I knew watching this film would be different, but I was not prepared for this. I was shocked where this movie went, for something out of the 70’s. Private Parts stars Ayn Ruymen, Lucille Benson, and John Ventantonio.

Private Parts is just plain weird and unexpected. A teen named Cheryl (Ayn Ruymen) who is a runaway teen trying to put her life together. She decides to shack up in the King Edward Hotel. She doesn’t realize that she will be staying in a freak show something like American Horror Story: Hotel. The King Edward Hotel is a place of murder, fetishism, peeping toms, and a madman who sleeps with a blow-up doll with Cheryl’s picture as its face. If you like weird, then pick up this movie asap.

The acting was good because I, for the most part, was creeped out or I was feeling the terror of Cheryl. Saying this film was not my cup-of-tea is an understatement, but the director and cast did a good job with the movie overall.
