Anaconda 3: Offspring Review
Synopsis:A mercenary-for-hire accepts a mission from a billionaire to capture a dangerous snake that could possibly help cure a terminal illness.
Anaconda 3: Offspring (2008) is an American/Romanian sci-fi action horror film that is also known as Anaconda III or Anaconda: Offspring and was shot in Bucharest, Romania and Danube Delta, Romania. Anaconda 3: Offspring is a sequel to Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004) and is the third installment in the Anaconda franchise. Director and cinematographer Don E. FauntLeRoy (SnakeHead Swamp (TV Movie) (2014), Bering Sea Beast (TV Movie) (2013), Anacondas: Trail of Blood (TV Movie) (2009), Urban Justice (Video) (2007)) failed miserably upon executing this terrible movie.
Anaconda 3: Offspring takes place in Romania where a female and a male anaconda is seen captured and will most likely be studied/experimented on at a genetic research facility where they are being held. Dr. Amanda Hayes (Crystal Allen - Anacondas: Trail of Blood (2009), Crooked Arrows (2012), Maid in Manhattan (2002)) is in charge of the findings on the anacondas. J.D. Murdoch (John Rhys-Davies - Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)) is a famous industrialist who is funding the research. Murdoch ordered for the anaconda to be gassed so it can be calmed down after Murdoch agitated the anaconda by flashing a bright light at it. It did not take long for the anaconda to break free of the walls killing several people in its path as it makes it way through its escape route. To make matters worse, the other anacondas also escaped.
Murdoch hired Hammett (David Hasselhoff - Click (2006), Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004), The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004), Piranha 3DD (2012)) and his team to capture both anacondas. Amanda and scientist Pinkus (Ryan McCluskey - Resident Evil (2002), Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (2010), The Contract (2006)) accompany the team.
The genetically altered anaconda lacerated Captain Grozny (Anthony Green - The Bourne Identity (2002), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (2007), Love Story (2007)) with its sharp-knifed tail and killed him. Dragosh (Bogdan Uritescu - High Tension (2003), The Detonator (2006), The Rage (2002)) was also killed by getting his head bitten off. Hammet shortly after informed the team on how they can kill the anaconda leading the team into splitting up into groups. The movie progresses to be a total boredom watch that irked me.
I gave this movie a two because of effort from the director working with a terrible screenplay/script; the actors gave it their best (which was mediocre) with what they had to work with and because of the kill scenes. The kill scenes were the most entertaining part of the movie although they were unrealistic and you can tell they were fake, and the blood looked nothing like blood, but it was something. The director did not excel at executing his job, but perhaps it was because he lost faith with the script. Everything was horrible in the movie including the fake looking snakes and sets. Crystal Allen gave the best performance - David Hasselhoff fans might be better off watching another movie because he did not have much screen time in this film. John Rhys-Davies is another one who did not get much screen time. There was no character development which did not help the movie. The CGI effects were horrible, and you can tell it was fake from a mile away. See the film at your risk but be warned that it was not a treat but a devastation.
