HellHorror’s review of Slayer (2006) breaks down the plot, scares, cast performances, and its lasting impact on the horror genre.

Slayer (2006) is a Sci-Fi vampire television movie that is also known as Mexferatu Mexico (2006). Director and writer Kevin VanHook (I, Robot (2004), Daredevil (2003), Olympus Has Fallen (2013), Miss Congeniality (2000)) directs really awesome movies but I cannot say the same for Slayer (2006) television movie. The movie contains minimal twists, gore, rain forest, vampires, violence, decapitations, huge body count and terrible dialog.

Slayer is about a special commando ops team that was given a mission to hunt bloodthirsty natives in South America. Farmers are capturing the wild meat/animals in the South American rainforest and demenished the vampires food resource. The vampires who can walk around in the sunlight without being harmed had no other choice but to attack the villages if they want to live which means killing the people. The movie was filled with blood everywhere as you can imagine - it is a vampire movie that indicates gore fest. Hawk (Casper Van Dien - Starship Troopers (1997), Sleepy Hollow (1999), The Omega Code (1999), One Life to Live (1968)) and his team of commandos discover how to kill the vampires in the jungle after bullets did not work. The battle between the vampires and humans began, and you can pretty much guess how the movie plays out from that point on.

Slayer was an average movie that did not receive much applause from me as the humor was there but on another level. Personally, I could have done with less macho military-ish dialog - it was overdone. The action scenes captured my attention every time there was one because it was so well choreographed. Most of the actors did a fantastic job with their roles. The stunts were not the best I have seen, and you can clearly see wires on the trees. The vampires movements did not flow flawlessly. I will not be seeing this movie again and do not recommend it to anyone to see, especially vampire lovers. The vampires in this movie do not give you the feel that they are vampires except for when they bite into humans.
