Horror fans searching for a breakdown of Octopus 2: River of Fear (2001) will find our review covers the plot, themes, and the shocking ending everyone talks about.
Octopus 2: River of Fear (2001) is an American horror movie that was an utter waste of my time. Director Yossi Wein (Bridge of Dragons (1999), American Ninja 4: The Annihilation (1990), Sweepers (1998), Lethal Ninja (1992)) failed in every possible way upon executing this movie. There was absolutely no horror, no suspense, no thrills, no scares, terrible action scenes and bad acting. The only part that probably entertained me in the movie is when the octopus was around the Statue of Liberty. Another humor part for me was to see the World Trade Center changing locations in the movie.
The movie is about an octopus attacking and eating random people in New York. There was a major storm that swept the enormous octopus from Nova Scotia to the New York Harbor. New York City Harbor Patrol Nick Hatfield (Michael Reilly Burke - Bundy (2002), The Collector (2009), Mars Attacks! (1996), Death of a President (2006)) and his fellow cops accidentally encounter the octopus while doing a drug bust in the Harbor. The tourist starts disappearing and boats are ripped apart, there is a sense of real danger in the city as the Fourth of July approaches. The Fourth of July celebration will have hundreds of people there and a killer octopus. Wonder what will happen!!!!!! If you would like to sit through a boring movie then watch this movie to see what happens to the giant killer octopus.
The movie reeks and the actors did not help the movie with their terrible acting/performances. The special effects are nothing to speak about because they appeared to be done by an inexperienced person. I am not sure why this movie was made - did they think the movie will prosper with their bad CGI effects of the octopus and well… everything else. There are major plot holes and inconsistencies such as using two different boats and trying to pass it off as one. Filming out of the United States and trying to make the movie look like it was filmed in New York with cheesy background/green screen. The lake/river that the octopus resides in show hilly area in the background whereas the movie is trying to say that the octopus was in the New York Harbor.
