Spring (2014) is an American science fiction romance horror movie that was filmed in Italy and California, USA. Directors Justin Benson (Resolution (2012), V/H/S: Viral (2014), Wrecked (2013)) and Aaron Moorhead (Resolution (2012), Walk a Mile in My Pradas (2011), The Colombian Connection (2011)) did an excellent job executing this love story. I was captivated from the point where he landed in Italy to the very ending. It is a movie that I will watch again and again. The film contains suspense, romance, emotion, drama, fantasy, horror, thrills, spine-chilling scenes, scares, laughs, supernatural and disturbing transformations.
Evan (Lou Taylor Pucci - Evil Dead (2013), Carriers (2009), Beginners (2010), The Story of Luke (2012)) went on a trip to Italy after his mother died using his inheritance money. He has been taking care of his sick mother for a long time and needed to get away for a while after being jobless. On his trip he traveled, drank and partied with various people. He also met Louise (Nadia Hilker) who had some very dark secrets. Louise wanted to be intimate with Evan, and he became suspicious of her behaviour because all he wanted was to go on a date with no strings attached. The acting from this part was spectacular and they made it appear as though they were a real couple while filming in the alleyway. Their romance/love grew rapidly, and Evan is still unaware that his girl is thirsting for blood and hides it from him because she does no want their relationship to be ruined. Evan is working so that he can have room and board while in Italy and has no idea that it is connected to Louise. I am not giving spoilers so watch the movie when you can so you can enjoy every bit of it like I did. I felt empathy for Louise as she tries to hide her transformation and identity from Evan. It was very disturbing to see her transformations. Are you thinking what Louise is? Is she a werewolf, alien, witch, vampire or a hybrid and does she have superpowers?
I love the sets and the scenery was a genuine treat. I especially like when Louise and Evan were in a boat that is heading to a beautiful ancient cave with blue water, and it appears as though the water is glowing. It was an eerie feeling but beautiful at the same time. The special effects, makeup, CGI, cinematography, sound and lighting were all excellent. This is a one of a kind love story/movie that I recommend to all horror fans who love a good romance movie. You might even forget that you are watching a horror movie because Evans romance with Louise will enthrall you.
