The Green Inferno (2013) shocked audiences with its ending. Our spoiler-free review explains the scares, themes, and what makes this film unforgettable.
The Green Inferno (2013) is an American cannibal thriller horror movie inspired by the Italian movie Cannibal Holocaust (1980). Director and co-writer Eli Roth (Grindhouse (2007), Cabin Fever (2002), Hostel (2005)) did a fantastic job executing this great movie. Eli Roth’s films are all alike, showing that he is a fan of cannibal cinema. The Green Inferno contains a lot of gore (middle and ending scenes), off-the-chart violence, suspense, torture, nudity, foul language, bloody scenes, gruesome, creepy remote atmosphere, and disturbing.
Justine (Lorenza Izzo - Aftershock (2012), The Green Inferno (2013), Que Pena Tu Boda (2011)) is a student at a college that is dating Alejandro (Ariel Levy - Promedio Rojo (2004), La Sexóloga (2012), Aftershock (2012)) who is not what he seems to be. She decided to join her boyfriend and a group of students on campus on a trip from the United States to Peru. They hope they can help the tribe in the rainforest by stopping the digging of natural gas by staging a protest and chaining themselves to bulldozers. Her boyfriend Alejandro is helping by doing mass tweets on Twitter to gain people’s attention and awareness of the matter. Justine trusts her boyfriend entirely and does not see that he is betraying their team and is not trustworthy. On their way back, their plane experiences some failure and crashes in the Peruvian jungle. An Amazonian cannibal tribe captures the survivors of the crash by drugging them and keeping them as prisoners so they can be served as lunch. They try their best to escape while Justine figures out that she is there for a purpose, and that is because of her virginity. The movie is worth watching, so watch it and see everything I will not tell you.
The makeup effects were amazingly well done, the scenery was a magnificent treat for me, and the acting was good but not excellent. Eli Roth did a good job introducing us to the characters. This movie is for horror fans who have a strong stomach to watch people being skinned alive, tortured, and eaten with a lot of blood everywhere. Eli Roth asked some natives from a secluded/remote village near the Amazon river to be in his movie. The natives have never seen a movie before. Eli Roth showed them Cannibal Holocaust, and they enjoyed watching it and agreed to be in the film.
