The Intruders (2015) is a Canadian thriller horror movie that is 92 minutes long and was filmed in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Director Adam Massey did a good job for a newbie director who does not have much experience in the movie industry. The movie contains creepy moments, thrills, suspense, sitting on the edge of your seat or staying still moments and a spooky house with secrets.
The Intruder’s opening scene showed a young female murdered, and it was very disturbing. The opening credits had several doll heads broken and beaten, messages that were scratched into the drywall and scary images. It gave the feel that the movie will be dark with terrifying moments but it turns out not to be all that. We then see Rose (Miranda Cosgrove - Despicable Me 2 (2013), Despicable Me (2010), School of Rock (2003), Drake & Josh (2004)) moved with her family to a home in Chicago and she does not like it there. Rose’s mother died while she was in college, and she had a difficult time dealing with it. It appeared as though Rose (20 years old) had a breakdown after her mother’s death and dropped out of college. Rose is on medication and stops taking them - she soon starts to hear voices with things moving around and also things starts to disappear.
The previous occupants of the house, Rose moved into was a mother and son that left in a rush and did not take their furniture and items in the house. Rose is now on a mission to find the secrets of the house as her father becomes worried about her health and state of mind. Rose tells her dad, Jerry (Donal Logue - Grounded for Life (2001), Blade (1998), The Patriot (2000), Just Like Heaven (2005), Fox’s Gotham TV series) that she does not imagine things and he does not believe her. Rose believes the house she lives in is supernatural and is determined to find the truth about the disappearance of the previous occupants.
The actors all did a fantastic job with their parts in the movie, and the music was eerie at times. I gave this movie a six because there was plot holes, and the movie could have been executed/directed better. The story flowed good but not excellent, and the spook factor could have a little more oomph to it. Overall I would recommend this movie for families with preteens and teenagers to watch as it is scary for younger audience.
