Our take on The Prophecy (1995) explores its plot, scares, and horror highlights to help fans decide if it deserves a place on their watchlist.

The Prophecy (1995) is a one h 38-min rated R American fantasy horror-thriller film. The first installment of The Prophecy series included four sequels and was shot in Arizona, USA. The Prophecy director and writer Gregory Widen (Highlander (1986), Highlander (1992-1998), Backdraft (1991)) executed one of his most memorable pieces of work that combine horror and religion. The movie contains graphic images from adult s**ual magazines, bloody images, foul language, violence, scary scenes, suspense, a war between evil and good, thrills, and action.

The Prophecy revolves around Archangel Gabriel looking for a particular evil soul on Earth and police officer Thomas Dagget who accidentally is caught in the middle of an angel war. A few angels hold a grudge against humankind and wish to find a domain for themselves. Gabriel and a few of his people try to start a war. With Lucifer reigning over hell, Gabriel thinks God’s favorite is men. Gabriel (Christopher Walken - Catch Me If You Can (2002), Wedding Crashers (2005), The Deer Hunter (1978), Pulp Fiction (1994)) tries to find the dark soul of a war hero because the dark soul will help him win the heaven war. Lucifer (Viggo Mortensen - A History of Violence (2005), The Road (2009), The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)) knows that another domain means that they will have another hell, and he does not want two hells.

Christopher Walken does not appeal to me with his jet black hair, which makes him look out of place, but the plus is that the black hair makes him look creepy, which fits his character. Will good or evil win the war? The Prophecy is a must-see film. For those who are a fan of TV series, Supernatural fans can see the 2nd war in one of their episodes. The movie, by all means, is not a very good film, but the messages it sends off and the logic behind it are something everyone should see.
