Exploring The Remaining (2014) through our review, we cover its story, scares, and how it fits into the broader horror genre landscape.

The Remaining (2014) is an American apocalyptic horror movie that made it to my watch again list. I felt as though I was on one crazy, eventful ride and liked it a lot. The movie is 88 minutes long and was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, USA. Director, producer and first-time co-writer Casey La Scala (Donnie Darko (2001), A Walk to Remember (2002), What a Girl Wants (2003)) blew me away with his masterpiece. This guy did an excellent job and surpassed many well-known directors and writers. There are some gruesome graphic deaths in this movie so beware.

The Remaining revolves around newly wedded couple Dan and Skylar (Alexa PenaVega - Spy Kids (2001), Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008), Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams (2002), Sleepover (2004)) on their wedding day. Dan (Dakota’s Summer (2014), Step Up 3D (2010), Awakened (2013)) and Skylar was having the best day with all of their families and friends attending their wedding ceremony until people started falling to the floor. Their family members and friends are mysteriously dying, and then all hell breaks loose. Dan, Skylar, best man Jack, maid of honor Allison and their photographer Tommy seek shelter in a church and found other survivors.
The group realizes that all the disasters happening is the Rapture described in Biblical prophecy. The group/individuals soon had to make some serious decisions.

I was happy to see that a tiny portion of the movie was found footage where it went back and forth for a little while but, then went straight forward to a normal movie. The found footage part contained too much of shaky camera action and made me dizzy. I remembered REC 3 while watching this movie because both movies take place at a wedding, but this movie is way better than REC 3. The deaths in The Remaining was so unexpected with it happening so fast and the way people died. This movie has it all; kids dying, demonic monsters killing people by stabbing them with their tails, planes falling from the sky, bibles burning to ashes as well as holy sacred objects and a boatload of natural disasters.
