William Lustig‘s Uncle Sam (1996) is a low budget film about a Desert Storm vet who returns from the dead to kill a few teens in his hometown who burned the American flag over his burial site. This synopsis seems more than unusual and peculiar, but a decent attempt to pull off this plot was made. I cannot believe that an estimated $2 million went into the budget to create this film.
Uncle Sam tries to pull off this ridiculous story of a vet primarily killing those teenagers and also any other anti-American types. The acting is overall commendable but never feels solid. Uncle Sam is also littered with dry humor. One such is Sam saying "Don’t be afraid, it’s only friendly fire." One goof seen in this film is when Sam is blown up; you see the support wires.
To sum up Uncle Sam, I would not see this film again, but it was something that was worth watching for the different experience it gave me. This movie is a good candidate for a late night watch where it will be a little funny to laugh at the funny moments and overall theme.
