Horror fans will enjoy our review of Way of the Vampire (2005), where we cover its story, scares, and how it ranks among modern horror classics.

Way of the Vampire (2005) is an American action thriller horror movie that vampire and Van Helsing fans should stay clear of. This movie will surely disappoint Van Helsing fans because of the poorly written screenplay and cinematography. Directors Sarah Nean Bruce and Eduardo Durão’s inexperience in the directorial field shows drastically in this difficult-to-watch movie. Way of the Vampire is Sarah’s second movie to direct and Eduardo’s first movie to handle. Sarah and Eduardo did fans a great favor by running one or fewer movies after Way of the Vampire.

Way of the Vampire started by introducing us to a little of the backstory in the late 1800s. Abraham Van Helsing (Rhett Giles - Quantum Apocalypse (2010), The Apocalypse (2007), Frankenstein Reborn (2005), Contract Killers (2008)) went to have one final fight with Dracula, who is the Lord of the Vampires. Van Helsing leaves a man to protect his wife while he battles Dracula, and he does not know that the man, Sebastian is a vampire, Prince. Sebastian (Andreas Beckett - Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014), Celeste & Jesse Forever (2012), Medal of Honor: Frontline (2002), When Nietzsche Wept (2007)) turned Van Helsing’s wife into a vampire by seducing her and then fed on her. Van Helsing returns home to his wife to live a happy life and finds out that he has to kill his vampire wife. Van Helsing is bent on destroying all of the head vampires that he made a pact with the Knights Templar. He tells them that he wants to become immortal and does not want to be allowed into the kingdom of Heaven until he kills all of the vampire princes in the world.

The movie skips to modern-day Los Angeles, where Van Helsing works undercover in a city hospital as a hematologist. The vampires now live as though they are homeless because they fear Van Helsing, but that scenario changes too quickly. Nubian vampires Arianna (Denise Boutte - Meet the Browns (2009), Extreme Movie (2008), Why Did I Get Married? (2007), Death Valley: The Revenge of Bloody Bill (2004)) gives Sebastian hope of ridding Van Helsing from the earth. A turning vampire shows up at the hospital, and Van Helsing gets his first lead. Van Helsing soon gathers his crew of vampire hunters, so the movie’s intensity heightens, and I find myself anxiously waiting to see what happens next.

The movie overall was an okay watch that did have its good moments as well as bad moments. I gave this movie a four because it had too much s**ual content that was unnecessary, and the film fell short in many areas. The movie was filled with plot holes and unexplained characters. There were sound issues, set mishaps, many goofs, terrible acting from the actors, and poor screenplay. I am not sure why I did not give this movie a lower score, but it is something that I will not watch again.
