Strange Blood (2015) is an American horror film that is directed by first-time full-length director Chad Michael Ward, who also wrote the screenplay. Strange Blood is one of those films that will make you feel like it reminds you of another movie. The film contains gore that was a decent amount, s**ual content, nudity, violence, blood, graphic, disturbing scenes, bad language, suspense, thrills, horror and a few frightening scenes. Chad Michael did a decent job directing his first full-length movie, and I look forward to seeing more vampire like movies from him.
Dr. Henry Moorehouse (Robert Brettenaugh - Vera (2013), They Watch (2015)) is a genius of a scientist who is obsessive and determined to find a cure for all diseases. Henry plans on curing all diseases that plague the world with one organism named Ella. Ella supposedly contains the cure that will heal the human race and it is a humongous pulsating conglutination that stays in a tank. Gemma (Alexandra Bard - The Hardest Day (2012), Deceiving Dream (2012), Lunch Break (2013)) is Henry’s assistant that was a witness to how Henry became a deranged doctor. Henry became a bloodthirsty vampiric-lunatic after becoming infected with parasitic-like infection. Gemma is very disturbed at Henry’s current state and searches for reasons for his transformation. Gemma started to offer her flesh to Henry, but those scenes do not appear authentic/real as their performance does not click. I did not feel any compassion for either character because Alexandra Bard looks like a beach model instead of a scientist assistant that curses an awful lot. Robert Brettenaugh did a better job than Alexandra, but I could not root for his survival as I felt distant from him.
The director and lighting department fell short with many scenes that had suppressed lighting but did put forth beautiful scenes. Strange Blood seemed as though it was made for vampire lovers although it is another mad-scientist film that fell short. I gave this movie a five because of effort and vampires. I am a sucker for vampires and thought the last scenes in this movie was not all that bad. Would I recommend this movie to vampire fans, NO and that is because this film will leave a bad taste in their mouth. The soundtracks were entertaining as well a few special effects. Overall, I do not recommend this movie to die hard vampire fans but fans who enjoys gore and a movie that they will not take too seriously.
